There is such a thing as TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY and Hotel Barcelo has yet to discover this fact. Better to install low technology that works than high technology that doesn't work. It was a real pain having to call Security every time the swipe cards malfunctioned getting in&out of the pool area, sauna, etc. It would also be LOVELY if the staff informed guests, esp. those of us who are older and are not accustomed to having to activate the lights with a swipe card, that the second key card we are issued upon arrival is for that purpose. Guatemala being what it is, I simply thought the lights had gone out!

There are also splashing fountains where children play and quieter shaded areas, where young lovers seem to occupy every bench.
